Book Blitz:: 'Dare To Be A Duchess' by Sapna Bhog

He’s a powerful duke. She’s his uncle’s ward. They have forever been at war, until one night, one masquerade, and one kiss…

Lara Ramsay is no stranger to scandal. As the orphaned daughter of a British colonel and his beloved Indian wife, whispers follow her everywhere. Not even the protection of the formidable Duke of Wolverton, a man she can’t stand, keeps the gossips at bay.

The audacious Lara has driven Tristan Wentworth, The Duke of Wolverton, to distraction since the day his uncle took her in—and he’s quite certain doing so is her favorite pastime. After catching her and his younger sister at a salacious masquerade, he’s had enough scandal and issues a marriage ultimatum: find a husband within six months or one will be chosen for her.

Unfortunately, no one in the ton appeals to her. Except, perhaps, the duke himself. The battle of wills has only just begun, and when Lara kisses him, their fate is sealed.

Sometimes even the most proper duke needs to break the rules to win the heart of the woman he loves...

Quotes from Dare to be a Duchess:

“Here, right at this moment, I’m giving you an ultimatum: Find someone from the ton to marry in the next six months or I will choose someone for you.” – Duke of Wolverton

“Well then the plan is simple, ‘Divide and Rule.’” – Lara Ramsay

“You’ll be surprised that a gentleman with the best intentions can behave like a rake when faced with temptation.” – Duke of Wolverton

“I think, Wolf, that you go on and on about my undesirability and my unattractiveness as a way to convince yourself more than me. The fact is that you kissed me because I am desirable and I am very attractive indeed.” – Lara Ramsay.

“You know very well that I’m accepted in the ton, albeit grudgingly, thanks only to you. No man wants to marry me, and I don’t want to marry any of those men.” – Lara Ramsay.

Read an Excerpt from Dare to be a Duchess:

Wolf crossed his arms and glared at Lara. Despite being at fault, she was as unrepentant as ever. Her absolute nonchalance drove him mad, always.

“It is my concern. Getting into trouble is second nature to you, so I’d be lying if I said that it gave me any pleasure to be the one to help you out.” Wolf scowled at her. “Paxton is not a fool. He only has to think closely as to whose identity I would desperately want to protect and then remember your dark hair and he will come up with your name. You truly have no sense at all.”

“Well then you shouldn’t have bothered coming to my aid,” Lara retorted. “I could have handled the situation perfectly well by myself.”

Wolf put his hands on his hips. “And how may I ask would you have done that?”

“I’ve heard that a well planted knee on a delicate part of a man’s anatomy would normally do the trick.”

His eyebrows shot up. “You’re crazy to think that you could have deterred Paxton that easily.”

Lara merely stared at him, her head held high, further fueling his temper.

“What, nothing to say?” he snapped. “Which brings me back to my first question. What in the world are you doing here in this depraved place?”

Lara continued to watch him with those deep blue eyes, her lips set in a mutinous line. Her lack of response irked him even more.

“Answer me,” Wolf demanded, his tone sharp.

She met his gaze head on. “We had no inkling this place would be so bad. And nothing untoward has occurred, so stop shouting at me.”

“Unbelievable,” he growled. “Do you know how bad this place can be for two innocent girls like yourselves? Behind their masks and costumes, the men here have only one thing on their minds when they look at you, and you, as usual, don’t care that you could be completely ruined if discovered, let alone taken advantage of, in this den of vice. You are wild and irresponsible and you give no thought to your actions or the consequences thereof. And you

brought Anne here? Just because you don’t care about your reputation doesn’t mean you can play fast and loose with hers.”

Lara’s eyes blazed with fury. “Anne is not a child. She is a grown woman who has a mind of her own.”

“And that is justification for you to come here?” Wolf countered.

“I, too, have a mind of my own,” she shot back. “And I do not appreciate you telling me what I can and cannot do.”

His nostrils flared. He was the Duke of Wolverton, one of the most powerful men in England. No one defied him. And yet this one woman stood against him at every turn. Why couldn’t she understand the potential danger for her or Anne here?

Reviews:

'Through His Eyes' is a lovely, emotional short story.

Fluently narrated, it brings out the best side of the human nature and relationships.

A beautiful short story that takes the readers through a sea of emotions. The author reminds us that relationships can be so precious and beautiful even if the connection is not by blood.

This short story is sweet and loving with a very beautiful message.

Book Excerpt

Nargis

It is 2030 and most of the water on earth is polluted.

In the beginning, it was industrial pollution that rendered most of the water beyond human usage, and then the water wars that followed resulted in the extensive use of chemical and biological weapons, which further left the remaining water sources toxic.

In less than 10 years, water had become the currency, and owners of non-toxic water source the new age kings, with their own militias, protecting their wells and supply chain.

Water trading was the most lucrative business now.

Namita

Namita had stopped thinking about resistance or confrontation long back. Domestic abuse and sometimes physical abuse had become part of life for her. She had accepted it. It was no secret either. Most people around her knew. It’s difficult to hide the scars, especially the physical ones.

Lybched

Since that fateful day, he had wished for only two things. To meet the family of the boy he had killed and the people who had killed his brother.

He couldn't make up his mind as to what will give him the closure he needed.

The atonement of his sin or revenge. Guilt and vengeance had been consuming him.

Neha

All she could manage was “Why are you good to me Shoeb? Why do you still stick around when everyone else has given up on me, and now you brought my child to me”.

Neha could not control anymore, tears started rolling down her cheeks.

Shoeb softly spoke almost in a whisper to Neha “We have taken him out of the shelter and legally adopted him. We will raise him as our own now”

Banaras

He had plans of getting married next year. An arranged marriage. His parents in Hyderabad had already selected the bride for him. He knew nothing about the girl and was not interested to know either. He believed that arranged marriage will ensure that his parents will be taken care of in their old age, which was his prime responsibility, being the only son, as has been repeatedly hammered into his head, by the society, since childhood.

Lipsticks

The night was beautiful, a bit cold though to be sitting in the balcony in only a t-shirt, this had been her ritual, night after night.

The silence at this time of the night is addictive. It calms the volatile souls and tames the inner demons.

TikTok

Finally, she read out Waheed’s post aloud “I respectfully decline The Smith Award, which is considered no less than Noble prize, awarded to me for my thesis “Impact of Social Media on the Psyche of Celebrities”, due to the sad and unfortunate demise of a subject during the course of an experiment.”

Oh Syria!

Qasim, on the other hand, was sad, very sad. He had this foreboding that his days on his homeland were numbered and he won’t be able to return, ever.

This was the home of his ancestors. Their graves were here. His father used to tell him that for centuries his family had lived in this town.

Genre: Romance

BLURB

An anthology of short stories exploring the emotion of love in all it's aspects. The love between a mother and son, a criminal and a stranger, an army officer and his wife, painful teenage crushes, second chance romances with twists in the tale and more.

Reader Reviews

"These are sweet, romantic short stories (though not necessarily 'romance') similar to what you might find in Guideposts. Most of the stories are set in India. All have an uplifting feel, with wonderful imagery and a realistic cadence which will make you feel like you are visiting that country. Some of the stories have the unusual theme of romance centered around film production, something you don't see everyday. My favorite story was 'Grace's Miracle' which had a fun twist that I don't want to spoil, but you will laugh and say 'a-hah!' I also enjoyed 'Afghan Adventure', to see the troubles through a India Army soldier's eyes." - Anna Erishkigal

"This is a heartwarming book, perfect for cozying up during the long winter evenings. All short stories are woven with love and sparkle with many hues. The stories flow easily and all have an element of surprise, an unexpected twist. These are not run of the mill romances. Pick a copy to read on a flight or gift one to someone dear. These are all stories to stir your soul and bring a smile." -  Neyz

Reviews

Mind blowing! One of the best book read in recent time. What an amazing writing and beautiful plot. Full of emotions, tragedy and togetherness. The book made me cry for beautiful reasons. Ever line, every chapter has fabulous memories to remain in her heart for longer time.
The love, friendship, bonding, companionship described in the book is absolutely fantastic.
The last letter from Pravi's parents has blockbuster of emotions which will make you love it more.
I loved it so much that I finished it in one go as i couldn't keep the book down until finish.”

A beautiful story with friends-family at the core! As with the previous books in the series, this book is set in a Tamil community in South Africa. Though this is the third book of the series, it can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend that you make time for the previous two books as well. Having met most of the characters, who are directly or indirectly related to one another, in the previous books, I enjoyed this book all the more as the continuity is maintained. The main characters have been developed in detail, they are realistic with their faults and hangups. The author has portrayed the feelings of the characters in detail. Even the supporting characters like their close knit friend- family circle have important roles to play in the story. I loved the easy camaraderie between the Diva group and also between the men. The scenes have been described in detail and I could picturise some of them easily.
I loved the book. The book has all the ingredients, love, sibling love, friendship, relationships, sacrifice as well as feeling of togetherness. The story is fast paced and unputdownable. The language is simple and I loved the accent of baby Pravani. The cover is beautiful and very apt for the story. As with all her books, the author has highlighted a social issue in this one too. The twists and turns make the story a page turner. The author has used a lot of South Indian words, but a glossary of terms at the beginning of the book making it easy for readers who are not well versed with the customs and terms.
Sadly, this trilogy has come to an end, but I shall look forward to many more books from her.”
