Please welcome author Adiana Ray on ILuvFiction today, part of the Blog Tour hosted by The Book Club. It’s a pleasure to host you Adiana!

ILF will start with a little bit about Adiana in her own words, followed by the questions.

The Author's Thoughts

'Sixteen and counting' are the number of cities that I have lived in so far. I like to think of myself as a 'Metronaut'. The myriad city cultures, the food, the hustle and bustle, the people are all elements of life that I thrive on and if you can have an 'Astronaut' why not a 'Metronaut' after all there are so many more of us out there?

I believe in the Zen tenet that every situation has a 1000 truths. It helps me write and it definitely helps when I am dealing with my two children. I like reading, I like cooking, I like travelling and I love sitting like a mindless zombie in front of the TV and if anybody says anything to that....Aha! a 1000 truths come in very handy.

I also write under a pen name M.X Steele. Why? My daughter thought Adiana Ray was too boring a name.

I do hope you enjoy reading all my work because I believe passionately that though we writers love pontificating and are totally in love with whatever we write; at the end of it all it is the readers that matter and above all what we write has to be 'entertaining'.

The Interview

ILF: How did 'Rapid Fall' happen, the inspiration and idea?

AR: I used to live in a working women’s hostel in Mumbai when I first started working. It was full of young women from outside Mumbai who had come here to try and build a career and get experience. Far away from home, they learnt how to come to terms with city life. It is from there I got the inspiration for my character ‘Sonia’. Corporate Mumbai gave me JD and from there it just moved on.

ILF: What were the challenges faced while writing the book?

AR: Ha! Ha!...well how about ‘just writing the book’. It is one thing to have an idea, quite another to put it down on paper and sustain the flow of the story. Word block was particularly challenging. That is like when you know there is a word that would fit the situation perfectly and it is on the tip of your tongue but you just can’t get it. Even if you move on, it keeps bugging you till you get it down. (ILF nods vigorously)

ILF: Which character in 'Rapid Fall' is close to your heart?

AR: Oddly enough I wouldn’t go with one of the main characters but rather with Monica, J.D’s friend and colleague. She has been with him through thick and thin and yet seems to have been able to maintain the balance between her personal and professional life. She is never afraid to tell J.D the unvarnished truth, which is what good friends do. She is a true blue career woman but at the same time does not lose sight of the fact that she is a ‘woman’ and finds it in herself to empathize with Sonia.

ILF: What do you like most and least about being a writer?

AR: It’s very empowering to be able to make up alternative realities (at least in your mind) and to give characters life. However at the end of the day it is a very solitary activity. You can be friends with other writers who will understand and support you but at the end of the day there is large chunk of time that you spend absolutely alone at the key board.

ILF: Any future writing projects in the works? If so, when can we expect a fabulous book?

AR: Well I keep doing short stories however I also have a historical romance in the pipeline which hopefully should be done within the next two months.

ILF: What’s the one thing about you that might surprise readers?

AR: I am a diehard Rajnikant fan. (Now this one is a googly, totally unexpected, ILF almost falls from the chair, but somehow manages to remain seated.)

ILF: Advice for aspiring authors.

AR: Just keep writing, some days it is very hard, it can be very discouraging and not lucrative but the feeling you get when something is accepted will get you to hit a new high. At the same time support other authors and you will be surprised by how much you can learn from them. Finally market, market, market.
